Beautiful Duet Series
I started this series on my Facebook group Yaad Kiya Dil Ne on 23 Aug 20. Since then, many other members have put up these songs. Here, I shall be giving you one of my own, per day.
Last time, I gave you Beautiful Duet #25 – Jeet hi lenge baazi hum tum. So here, then, is the next one:
Song #26
Ek pyar ka nagma hai
Life is Simply Love
Let me put it this way: you haven’t really lived until you have loved. Life can’t just be passage of time in years, days, months and hours.
There are many songs written on this subject. One of the best is by Rajinder Krishan in the 1953 movie Anarkali:
Zindagi pyar ki do chaar ghadi hoti hai,
Chahe thodi bhi ho ye umr badi hoti hai.
You simply cannot measure life in any other dimension but the dimension of Love.
Santosh Anand – Laxmikant Pyarelal – Mukesh – Lata Mangeshkar
Santosh Anand started his career as Lyricist with Purab Aur Paschim in the year 1970. That movie was, of course, produced and directed by Manoj Kumar. This song of the 1972 movie Shor, also produced and directed by Manoj Kumar, has been his most popular song. It was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and made full use of violin, the first instrument that Pyarelal learnt from his Goan guru Antony Gonsalves (Pyarelal paid him tribute by having a song on him in Amar Akbar Antony). Santosh Anand received two Filmfare Awards since then: the 1974 one for Roti Kapada Aur Makaan song Main na bhoolunga and 1982 one for Prem Rog song Mohabbat hai kya cheez.
Both the songs for which he received Filmfare Awards were composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
Incidentally, just like this duet, Main na bhoolunga was also sung by Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar.
My Own Poetry
Today, I am doing something very different; I am giving you poems in English.
Is Love affected by the passage of Time?
Or does it go on forever and ever?
Does the clock for Love too chime?
Or does it perish or alter never?
The answers to these are easy to find,
Just close your eyes and clear your mind.
The one between bodies is just infatuation,
True Love is always between two souls.
You can’t elevate it to Love, what is mere flirtation,
Love, on the other hand, has no loopholes.
There lies clue to whether Love is Time bound,
Evidence to the contrary can easily be found.
Souls are eternal, only bodies die.
Anything between souls is beyond limits of Time.
Same immortality then to Love would apply,
Love is like God, timeless and sublime.
Love is then beyond death,
It is linked with soul and not with breath*.
All those who actually love your soul,
Your brother, sister, parents and spouse,
Will jell with it again to become whole,
With death** this flame won’t douse.
So what if from one life to other you can’t recall?
The souls remember and that’s not something small.
*A Hindi song by Gulzar brings out this transience of breath (Jaan) clearly:
Meri jaan, mujhe jaan na kaho meri jaan,
Jaan na kaho anjaan mujhe,
Jaan kahan rehti hai sadaa…
**Only death is that of the body.
The Song
Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy: Ek pyar ka nagma hai…
I hope you liked my choice of Beautiful Duet #26.
