As with all posts on Lyricists, these posts are a compilation of my daily posts on my Facebook page Lyrical.
I hope you liked my choice of songs for Part III.
Lets begin taking up songs for Part IV.
Day #27, Song #79
Phagan ki rut aayi re
Ladies and gentlemen, I did a terrible mistake whilst giving you DN Madhok’s songs chronologically by starting with 1932 movie: Radhe Shyam.
The mistake was that inadvertently I missed out many movies.
Hence, before I bring you to the year 1947 again, let me introduce you to some of the movies that I missed out.
The first of these was a movie in 1934 titled Mast Fakir. The movie was directed by him and and starred Miss Moti, Vimla, Ismail, Shiraj, Ibrahim, Sushila and Sardar Mansur.
Damodar Sharma was the music director and composed the following songs:
1. Main To Nagre-Nagre Dwaare-Dwaare Tohe Pukaroo Piya

9. De De Pyaale O Pyaale Matwale Bhar Bhar Ke
10. Tirche Jawaan Hai Baanke Maste-Shabaab Hai Ye, Is Baankpan Ka
None of the songs are available.
Then there was this 1937 movie called Laheri Luterta. Its poster in front of me, as I write, also calls it Gay Bandit. During those days ‘Gay’ was used as Merry or Happy.
Nagendra Majumdar was the director and the movie starred Navinchandra, Marutirao Pehlawan, Vatsala Kumektkar, Amritlal Nagar and Tun Tun.
Damodar Sharma composed the following songs, some of which were also penned by him (five by DN Madhok):
1. Ghanshyaam Sunder Ke Neh, Bheeje More Chunariya
2. Dhalak Na Jaaye More Gagre, Jaaye More Gagre

None of these are available.
Sneh Lagna was another movie of 1938 that I missed out. This movie was directed by DN Madhok. The film starred Chandrarao Kadam, Hansa Wadkar, Jeevan, Gangaprasad Pathak, Fakir Mohammad, and Shyam Sunder.

9. Papeeha Bole Peeyu Peeyu Peeyu, Mora Bole Preetam Kith Tu Kith Tu
10. Ab To Khush Ho Ke Mauze Udaayenge Hum, Door Ho Jaayenge Saare
Regrettably none of these songs are available.
And then I missed out many of his movies in the year 1940. Jhuthi Sharm was one of them. It was directed by Mohan Dayaram Bhavnani. It starred Trilok Kapoor, Bimla Kumari, Navin Yagnik, SB Nayampalli and Rai Mohan.

Day #29, Song #86
Tum nahin aate ho to yaad se keh do
We started taking up songs of the 1942 AR Kardar movie Sharda for which Naushad composed ten songs penned by DN Madhok. It is only in 1947 (Dard) that Shakeel Badayuni would move in with Naushad as the preferred lyricist. Until then DN Madhok penned some delightful songs.
The next song that I am giving you was sung by Nirmala Devi, Govinda’s mother.
Please enjoy: Tum nahin aate ho to yaad se keh do…
tum nahi aate ho nahi yaad
yaad ko keh de vo bhi nahi aaye
tum nahi aate ho nahi yaad
yaad ko keh de vo bhi nahi aaye
bhulne wale bhul gaye sab
yaad kyu unki aake sataye
bhulne wale bhul gaye sab
yaad kyu unki aake sataye
lakho hi arman aankho me aaye
pani bahake maine bahaye
aur jo dil me thadapte rahe
aur jo dil me thadapte rahe
vo kaleje me dard bana ke pukare
tum nahi aate ho nahi yaad
yaad ko keh de vo bhi nahi aaye
mast hawa ab aaye na aaye
mast hawa ab aaye na aaye
jalim ghata ab aaye na aaye
meri bhala ko yaad me sikhi
meri bhala ko yaad me sikhi
koyal malhar gaye na gaye
tum nahi aate ho nahi yaad
yaad ko keh de vo bhi nahi aaye
bhulne wale bhul gaye sab
yaad kyu unki aake sataye

Day #33, Song #97
Bhulane wale hamen bhi
We enter the 33rd day with 556 songs of DN Madhok from 57 movies behind us starting with the beginning of his career with the 1932 movie Radhey Shyam.
Yesterday we took up one song from 1945 movie Kaise Kahoon, a Moti B Gidwani movie starring Pran and Ragini. The song was sung by Zeenat Begum, a fins of Pandit Amarnath.
I would have given you a second song sung by SD Burman and SD Batish but one of the sites gives credit to Sharma for having written it.
So, lets move on.
Ghazal was then the next movie in 1945.
It was a Zahir Raja movie starring Leela Chitnis and Jahangir.
Gyan Dutt composed songs that were penned by Shant Arora, Khawar Zaman, Deena Nath Madhok, and Abid Gulrez. Once again, it is not clear who has written what.
1. Hum Bhule Tum Maaf Karo
2. Bhulane Wale Hame Bhi
3. More Ghar Aana
4. Ye Kisne Mujhko Dekha
5. Ae Jaan Apne Honto Ke
6. Hoga Koi Aaram Se
7. Sakhiyo Ho Gayi Aaj Parayi
8. Ye Ranj Judai Ke Uthaye Nahi Jate
Please enjoy: Bhulane wale hamen bhi…
bhulane wale hume bhi na yad aaya karo
bhulane wale hume bhi na yad aaya karo
kisi ko baithe bithaye na chhed jaya karo
kisi ko baithe bithaye na chhed jaya karo
teri ek yad palatti hai meri aankho me
teri ek yad palatti hai meri aankho me
ae dard hidar in aankho ko na bulaya karo
ae dard hidar in aankho ko na bulaya karo
mere hi dil pe sada bijaliya girati ho
ho o o o ho
mere hi dil pe sada bijaliya girati ho
kabhi sawan ki ghata wo udhar bhi jaya karo
kabhi sawan ki ghata wo udhar bhi jaya karo
aaja ae nath ke jine se thak gyi hu main
aaja ae nath ke jine se thak gyi hu main
na mere hal pe ro kar hasi udaya karo
na mere hal pe ro kar hasi udaya karo
bhulne wale hume bhi na yad aaya karo
Day #33, Song #98
Jawani mastani hai
His last movie in 1945 was Dhamki, a Ravindra Dubey movie starring Raghini and Al-Nasir.
All songs were penned by DN Madhok and all were composed by Pandit Amarnath:
1. Dard Mohabbat Aah Se Keh De Zinat Begam
2. Apne Kothe Mai Khadi Dhaniram, Munawar Sultana
3. Jawani Mastani Hai Munawar Sultana

6. Aankh Mila Ke Koi Re Zinat Begam
7. Jab Tum Yaha Hum Waha Munawar Sultana
8. Kat Gayi Vaydo Me Kuch
9. Phir Barsan Lage Zinat Begam
We know that Zeenat Begum has been a discovery of Pandit Amarnath in 1937; she being a kothewali (courtesan).
However, today, I am giving you a song by Munawar Sultana.
Munawar Sultana was an actress of the same era as Swaran Lata (do you guys remember her in AR Kardar’s Rattan?), Ragini and Noor Jehan (both the actresses whose songs I have been giving you).
Her first film in a leading role was in the same year as Dhamki: Mazhar Khan’s Pehli Nazar. How do I know so much about her? Aha, in 1947 she acted in AR Kardar’s Dard and the first song of Shakeel Badayuni was picturised on her: Afsana likh rahi hoon!
Please enjoy: Jawani mastani hai…
jawani mastani hai jawani mastani hai
pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye
haye re haye jawani mastani hai
pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye
haye re haye jawani mastani hai
ek thi laila ek tha majnu
ek thi laila ek tha majnu
dono ki aapas me ho gayi kuch yun yun

ishk ka rog laga kar dono bin aai le aaye
haye re haye jawani mastani hai
pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye
haye re haye jawani mastani hai
pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye

pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye
haye re haye jawani mastani hai
hir ki suno kahani hir ki suno kahani
ranjha ko dekha muh me bhar aaya pani

ranjha ko dekkho muh me bhar aaya pani
has kar boli pyar karn ki rut hai pyar karenge
has kar boli pyar karn ki rut hai pyar karenge
hum bhi dubenge sanm tujhko bhi le dubenge
hum bhi dubenge sanm tujhko bhi le dubenge
fir dilo se nikali haye baaj na aaye

pag pag thokar kahye baaj na aaye

Day #34, Song #101
Kaagaz ki meri naav aur door kinara hai
That brings us back to the year 1947. I stand corrected. Instead of one (whose songs I have given you on 30th Mar, on the 26th Day), there were three movies: Bela, Do Dil and Dak Bangla.
Do Dil was a Jagdish Sethi movie starring Motilal, Suraiya, Karan Dewan, Gulab, and Badri Prasad.
Govind Ram composed the following songs penned by DN Madhok:
1. Do Din Ginti Ke Umariya Beeti Jaye Mohammed Rafi
2. Hamare Saiyya Daru Pi Ke Aaye Rajkumari, Mukesh
3. Maati Kaa But Bhaa Gayaa Dil Hi To Hai Aa Gayaa Suraiya, Mukesh
4. Kaagaz Ki Meri Naav Aur Dur Kinaaraa Hai Suraiya, Mukesh
5. Phir Nain Banvare Bhar Bhar Aaye Hay Suraiya
6. Phir Hame Koyee Yad Aaye Hai Suraiya
7. Pyar Jata Ke Apna Bana Ke Mukesh
8. Le Matki Aa Ja Radha Ri Mukesh
9. Jiyo Beiman Bas Me Paraye Hai Mukesh
11. Din-Din Joban Dhalata Jaaye … Tere Bin Din Naahin Bitein Re Suraiya
12. Chanda Kee Chandanee Me Suraiya
We are indeed in for a treat and we shall be taking up quite a few of these songs.
The first song that I give you is a memorable song; a duet between Suraiya and Mukesh. Motilal was a distant relative to Mukesh and had given a break to Mukesh in 1941 as Actor-Singer in the movie Nirdosh (Dil hi bujha hua ho to). In 1945 movie Pehli Nazar, Mukesh became the playback singer voice for Motilal (with his first song as playback singer composed by Anil Biswas: Dil jalta hai to jalne de).
In this movie too Mukesh sang for Motilal and Suraiya sang for herself.
Please enjoy: Kaagaz ki meri naav aur door kinara hai…
su : kaagaz ki meri naav
kaagaz ki meri naav aur dur kinaaraa hai -2
mu : is dolati na_iyaa kaa -2
ab kaun sahaaraa hai
su : kaagaz ki meri naav aur dur kinaaraa hai
kaagaz ki meri naav
su : aansu bhi chhalakate hai aur gam ki ghataaye hai -2
aavo meri aankho me -2
saawan kaa nazaaraa hai
mu : is dolati na_iyaa kaa -2
ab kaun sahaaraa hai
su : kaagaz ki meri naav aur dur kinaaraa hai
kaagaz ki meri naav
mu : hamane teri aankho me ek duniyaa basaa_i thi -2
jab tum hi phire hamase phir kaun hamaaraa hai
is dolati na_iyaa kaa ab kaun sahaaraa hai
su : kaagaz ki meri naav aur dur kinaaraa hai
kaagaz ki meri naav
Day #34, Song #102
Pyar jata ke apna bana ke
We have moved into the year 1947 and for the 1947 movie Do Dil, in the 12 songs penned by DN Madhok and composed by Govind Ram, we have quite a treat.
I have given you a memorable duet between Suraiya nd Motilal.
Now here we have another song sung by Mukesh.
Pandit Govind Ram was a trained musician from Lahore. He composed songs and music for both Hindi and Punjabi movies. His music wasn’t so much typical Punjabi music of those times but of mainstream Hindi films music.
Please enjoy Mukesh singing: Pyar jata ke apna bana ke…
pyar jatake apna banake
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
pyar jatake apna banake
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
jane wale dard na deja
jane wale dard na deja
jaa aur apni yaad bhi leja
jaa aur apni yaad bhi leja
khuli aankh ka khwab dikha ke
khuli aankh ka khwab dikha ke
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
pyar jatake apna banake
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
wo kya jane dard paraye
wo kya jane dard paraye
kya hai rona kya hai haye
kya hai rona kya hai haye
dil ko jhuthe khel khilake
dil ko jhuthe khel khilake
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
pyar jatake apna banake
wo gaye wo gaye wo gaye
pyar jatake

We took up two: One duet between Mukesh singing for Motilal (Mukesh’s distant relative) and Suraiya singing for herself; and the other one a solo by Mukesh for Motilal.
This is another duet between Mukesh and Suraiya.
Please enjoy: Maati ka but bha gaya dil hi to hai aa gaya…

Day #35, Song #104
Hamare sainyan daru pi ke aaye
We are taking up songs of the 1947 Jagdish Sethi movie Do Dil starring Suraiya and Motilal.
I had mentioned that Govind Ram composed songs for both Punjabi and Hindi movies and that his songs had mainstream Hindi films influence rather than Punjabi.
However, the last song Maati ka but aa gaya had decidedly Punjabi influence.
Here is now a duet between Mukesh and Rajkumari.
Please enjoy: Hamare sainyan daru pi ke aaye…
humaare saiyaan daaru pi ke aaye
humaare saiyaan daaru pi ke aaye
aake hume bulaaye
main bolu na na na
humaare saiyaan daaru pi ke aaye
aake hume bulaaye
main bolu na na na
hua kya aaye jo pike

o jara nain se nain mila ke

humaare saiyaan daaru pi ke aaye
humaare saiyaan daaru pi ke aaye

Day #35, Song #105
Di din ginti ke umariya beeti jaaye
We are still taking up the songs of the 1947 Jagdish Sethi movie Do Dil starring Suraiya singing for herself and Motilal having his distant relative Mukesh singing for him.
We took up two songs out of 12 yesterday and two today.
Here is the final song. It has been sung by Mohammad Rafi.
Please enjoy: Di din ginti ke umariya beeti jaaye…
do din ginti ke umariya biti jaye
do din ginti ke umariya biti jaye
pyar ka bojh bada bhari hai
pyar ki chot badi kari hai
pyar ka bojh bada bhari hai
pyar ki chot badi kari hai
tar bandh kar aasu baithe
tar bandh kar aasu baithe
ek jaye ek aaye umariya biti jaye
do din ginti ke umariya biti jaye
pure kar arman adhure
pure kar arman adhure
warna honge kabhi na pure
warna honge kabhi na pure
jo karna hai aaj hi karle
jo karna hai aaj hi karle
kal ka sathi kaun
kahi kal aaye na aaye
do din ginti ke umariya biti jaye
do din ginti ke umariya biti jaye
I hope you liked my choice of songs for Part IV.
Please await songs of Part V.
